Every year ASPPA (American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries) plays host to an annual event where thousands of leading retirement industry leaders flock to Washington, D.C. for three days to partake in what has been described as the “most intensive and extensive networking, informational and educational event for retirement plan professionals in the nation.” This event is like what Comic Con is to anime enthusiasts, the Cannes Film Festival to filmmakers, or the Texas Renaissance Festival to members of the SCA. On top of three days of intensive networking sessions and 75 workshops, ASPAA also held elections for their Leadership Council, an important position that would serve for the next four years.
So, this year when Kirsten Curry, President of Leading Retirement Solutions, attended the annual ASPPA conference in October, it was to her delight that not only was she nominated among her peers, but elected in front of and by the entire ASPPA membership to represent the organization and their members as an integral part of the Leadership Council. Curry considers this position “a great honor and privilege” and looks forward to contributing to this amazing organization in a greater capacity over the coming years.
To be nominated and elected to the Leadership Council of ASPPA is no small undertaking. Out of the thousands of ASPAA members only a handful are nominated and fewer still elected to office. These industry professionals are considered to be leaders among leaders, individuals who will best represent the interests of ASPPA and its growing legion of supporters.
What is ASPAA?
In an industry that’s constantly changing and “wrought with regulation,” ASPAA is a professional non-profit organization that strives to educate and advance knowledge of retirement plan professionals with the latest information and regulations that comes out of Washington, and to “create a framework of public policy that gives every working American the ability to have a comfortable retirement.” ASPAA is the retirement industry’s “watchdog and premier educational provider,” with a following of 16,000 retirement plan professionals and a growing membership all dedicated to “Working for America’s Retirement.”
